Alessia-Cara

18 year old Brampton native, Alessia Cara, has created a big time buzz with her soulful single ‘Here’, and she joined Roz & Mocha in the KiSS 92.5 studios to talk about it’s breakout success and perform it live!

‘Here’ is an anthem for anyone who’s ever felt anxious or awkward at a party.

The track has been streamed over over 9 million times on Spotify, and the video is approaching 2 million views on YouTube.

Aleesia was discovered at 16 years old by her production company who caught wind of her cover of The Neighborhood’s ‘Sweater Weather’ that she posted on YouTube. From there, her production company got her music in front of executives from Def Jam who inked her to a U.S. recording contract.

“It’s so weird, because I was also one of those people who had 200 views. For maybe 2 or 3 years I was posting videos, it was like no one really cared, I don’t even know why I did it, or for who I did it, but I was doing it anyways,” she explained to Roz & Mocha. “I think once I posted my ‘Sweater Weather’ cover, which is the one they saw, it’s my most viewed cover now, I just kept refreshing the page, and views just kept coming up, and I don’t know why or how or what triggered it, people just started seeing that specific video.”

Alessia has gained the attention and support of some music heavyweights, including another talented young Canadian artist, Shawn Mendes!
