Sesame Street Introduces First Autistic Character

In an ongoing effort to promote equality and de-stigmatize Autism, Sesame has taken the next step…meet Julia!

Julia has bright eyes, a purple dress…and also has autism. She’s the newest muppet of Sesame Workshop, and has been created to connect with Autistic children.

Sesame Street created this brand new story book for ages 2-5, saying this about the project :

The initiative, created for communities and families with children ages 2 to 5, includes a free downloadable app that incorporates video, digital story cards designed to make daily life tasks easier for families of children with autism and storybook materials for providers, organizations and caregivers. 

Sesame Street also rolled out this video yesterday.

This isn’t the first time Sesame Street has made strides in Autism Awareness, with this episode coming out in 2014.
