The St. John’s band were formed by lead vocalist Meg Warren after she got tired of singing opera and began making her own music. She reached out to of Robbie Brett (Guitar), Nick Coultas-Clarke (Drums) and Josh Banfield (Keyboard) and the band was fully formed. According to Josh Banfield, “the three of us (Robbie Brett, Nick Coultas-Clarke and himself) “would just play in as many St. John’s bands as possible.”

Meg Warren spoke about her time in Memorial’s music program, saying, “I was coming to the end of my degree and I always wanted to be performer…I had auditioned for performance in my program.”

She added, “I didn’t get in so I was thinking I would just go all over the world, teach English overseas and take a year off. Then in February of my last term at music school I was encouraged to write something for The RPM Challenge — basically you’re encouraged to write and record an album in the month of February. So I tried to do that and I only got to two songs written, but I loved it and I quickly realized that I wanted to take the band seriously.”

They have shared the stage over the years with some of Canada’s finest musicians, including Tegan and Sara, Lights and Dragonette; in 2012 they won five MusicNL Awards and were nominated for an East Coast Music Award for Rising Star in 2013.

Their debut solo album, All Lit Up features songs like, ‘Fall Apart’, ‘Nice Girls’ and their hit single, ‘Dukes’.

According to Meg, you’ll hear influences from the likes of Tove Lo, Charli XCX and The Killers in their music,

“We all listen to a lot of top 40 pop, perhaps myself more than anyone in the band…It’s top 40 pop music that still sounds like a band. Especially our live show, and I think you can hear that in the music.”
