George Michael’s manager Michael Lippman revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the singer died of heart failure on Christmas day,

It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period…The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”

Michael first found success as half of the pop duo Wham!, with their 1984 singles ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’, ‘Careless Whisper’ and their hugely popular holiday track ‘Last Christmas’.

The group would split in 1986, and George would go on to rise to superstardom as a solo artist.

His 1987 album Faith featured the hit songs ‘Faith’, ‘One More Try’, ‘Father Figure’, and ‘I Want Your Sex’.

The album would go on to win the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year.

George released six more studio albums throughout his career.

Did you know George Michael appeared on Jame Corden’s first ‘Carpool Karaoke’ video that he would later take to the Late Late Show?

While on an episode of Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show earlier this year, James Corden revealed that the idea for ‘Carpool Karaoke’ came from a 2011 sketch for UK charity Comic Relief, and it featured Corden and Michael driving around singing some of Michael’s biggest hits.

Corden explained, “My original idea was to pick George Michael up from prison in a car…And then we realized, ‘Maybe we’ll lose the prison, but what if there’s still some fun for me and George to be in the car and we’ll sing some Wham! songs?’”

Corden was one of the first celebrities to pay tribute yesterday to the Wham singer who unexpectedly passed away yesterday.
