Bates Motel is back for its 5th season.

After the death of Norma Bates in season 4, it looks as though fans may have to recover ASAP because season 5 will focus on an older Norman Bates, as he balances his public image and now a motel owner … and let’s not forget, his inner deranged world; the images he creates in his mind.

Not only will there be twists and turns in the new season but Bates Motel will intersect with Psycho, the 1960’s classic by Alfred Hitchcock … PLUS … Rihanna will be included in a few episodes as Marion Crane, an unlucky motel guest.  Although Bates Motel writers want to channel Psycho, they want to stay away from mimicking the film.

Marian Crane (whose character will resemble Janet Leigh from the 1960’s) will be a part of the iconic shower scene from the film.

Executive producer Kerry Ehrin says that season 5 will take a deeper look into Crane’s psyche:

We’re taking threads of that story and definitely using them so it’s recognizable, it’s just where we go with it is very different. It’s tough to be in a situation where you’re in love with a guy, and for whatever reason, he keeps stalling. You still have all this hot sex with him, and he’s saying he loves you, but he’s stalling. The internal story of that, for a woman, is a really interesting one. We never really got to see that. In Psycho, you just see the outside of that more. It was trying to do a story about a contemporary woman with some edge, with some expectations, who isn’t perfect, who isn’t always perfectly sweet, who is in that situation, but we’re rooting for her to get what she wants.”
