Matthew Perry has responded to a recent tweet from Justin Trudeau, in which he expresses his desire to have a boxing rematch with the former Friends star. The actor politely declined the offer, noting that the prime minster would most likely win thanks to his security detail. “I think I will pass at your request for a rematch kind sir (given that you currently have an army at your disposal),” tweeted the Hollywood star.

The humorous Twitter exchange comes a few weeks after Matthew recalled the time he beat up the future prime minster back when the two were students at Rockliffe Park Public School in Ottawa. “My friend Chris Murray, who was also in the fifth grade in Canada, reminded me that we actually beat up Justin Trudeau. We both beat him up,” explained the actor during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Justin used the light-heartedness of April Fool’s Day to fire back at his old classmate. “I’ve been giving it some thought, and you know what, who hasn’t wanted to punch Chandler? How about a rematch Matthew Perry,” wrote the 45-year old.

While many fans took Justin’s conversation on Twitter seriously, the prime minister’s principal press secretary Gerald Butts confirmed that the politician’s tweet was a joke. “Gotcha, people. #poissondavril,” Gerald stated on the social media platform.

What exactly triggered Matthew to take his aggression out on a young Justin? According to the actor it came down to athletic ability. “I think he was excelling in a sport that we weren’t. It was pure jealously and, you know, we beat him up,” explained Matthew, adding, “His dad [Pierre Trudeau] was prime minister, but that wasn’t the reason we beat him up. I think he was the only kid in school that we could beat up.”
