MTV have transformed their annual MTV Movie Awards show to become the MTV Movie & TV Awards with the obvious change being that the show will now mix in film and television (and streaming).

What this also means is that movie, TV and streaming nominees will be mixed together in certain categories. For example, Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya will go up against Beauty and the Beast star Emma Watson in the Best Actor in a Movie category.

Along with TV and movie nominees being mixed in together, gender divisions will no longer be part of the award show.

‘Fan Favourite’ categories such as Best Hero, Best Villain and Best Kiss will also feature a mix of TV, movie and streaming nominees; there are also new categories this year such as, Best Host, Best Reality Competition and Show of the Year.

Jordan Peele’s Get Out leads the way with six nominations; Netflix’s Stranger Things and Beauty and the Beast have four and a host of TV shows and movies (Atlanta, Game of Thrones, Hidden Figures, Logan, Moonlight and This Is Us ) have three.
