Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, the EDM duo known as The Chainsmokers, have released their highly anticipated debut album, Memories…Do Not Open. 

The album contains collaborations with Coldplay, Jhene Aiko, Florida Georgia Line and more!

 

 

Last month, the duo revealed the albums tracklist on Twitter.

The album includes the singles ‘The One’, ‘Paris’ and their collaboration with Coldplay, ‘Something Just Like This’.

On the album opening track ‘The One’, Taggart sings, “You know, I’m sorry, I won’t make it to your party… Got caught up in my own selfishness, it won’t let me be a part of this.”

 

 

‘Paris’ is the first Chainsmokers song without a featured vocalist since the group’s song ‘New York City’, that song contained uncredited vocals by singer Brittany Amaradio. ‘Paris’ also features uncredited female vocals, but much like ‘Closer’ Andrew Taggart takes the lead vocal on the song; those uncredited vocals can be attributed to Emily Warren.

Why was she uncredited? Warren told Billboard, “I think that their reasoning was that they wanted it to be a Chainsmokers thing and not featuring anyone. Drew did most of the singing and is doing a lot more singing now. And since it’s not a proper duet, the vocal is meant to be more of an effect than an actual part. And there’s other stuff I’m doing with them that I’m singing on, so I think in terms of what’s coming out, they didn’t want to do a lot of features.”

How did the collaboration come about? Warren said, “I actually didn’t write on “Paris.” They happened to be in New York and I was working on some stuff at a studio nearby, and they were like, “Can you please come? We’re finishing this song. It needs a little something; we don’t know what it is. Can you just come sing some background or something?” So I came in and just layered some of Drew’s parts and sang those different parts that you can hear on the song. They were like, “All right, sick, the song’s done now.” It was awesome. They just put me in the booth and were like, “Do whatever you want,” and it turned out how it did.”

 

 

The Coldplay collaboration was a real dream come true for the EDM duo.

Alex Pall told Rolling Stone in an interview that Chris Martin called him one late night in Malibu to record the song saying Martin “wanted to start after he put his kids to bed”. He said working with him was a pleasure and that he was “the greatest f***ing dude.”

He added, “when Alex and I got into the car afterward, we were freaking out, like, ‘whaaaaa?!”

He went on to say that ‘Something Just Like This’ was “one of the dopest songs we’ve ever written.”

 

 

We’ll get to hear the duo perform some new music from Memories: Do Not Open this weekend as they will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live; Comedian Louis CK will serve as the guest host.

The Chainsmokers will look to continue their success this year after a monster 2016 which saw the duo release two massive singles, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ (featuring singer Daya) and ‘Closer’ (featuring Halsey); the former won them the Grammy for ‘Best Dance Recording’ and the latter was the longest reigning #1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 song in 2016. 

 

 

The Chainsmokers will take their new music on the road with a brand new tour set to kick off in Miami next week; they’ll be joined by Kiiara and Emily Warren. Check out the tour dates below!
