When fans received “Strip That Down” in May of this year, the circle was finally complete. All the former members of One Direction had released solo singles and were on their own career paths. As each song entered the zeitgeist, fans quickly reacted, joyous that they’re receiving new music from the crew, sad that an era is over. For the guys in the band, the rockstar lifestyle appears to have simply caught up with them. As Liam Payne explained to Adam Wylde today in the KiSS 92.5 studios, “One Direction got hectic at a certain point. And I lost my head with it a little bit… We were in hotels rooms and cars everyday… There were points when I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is for me.'”

Once Liam was comfortable enough to step back into the spotlight, he dropped “Strip That Down” and his collaboration with ZEDD, “Get Low.” “Strip That Down” became a Top 10 single in the U.S. and took him across the world to play a series of solo shows. As he explains to Adam Wylde in the video above, the lack of back catalogue is a little disconcerted, but it hasn’t deterred him, “it’s annoying in a sense, because when I’m on stage, I can only sing two songs, but I want to stay.”

The stop gap between One Direction and new music also allowed Liam Payne to focus on the more “normal” aspects of life. He and his partner Cheryl Tweedy welcomed a baby boy to the world in March and it’s definitely humbled his outlook on the world. When Adam asked about the daddy life he said, “It’s beautiful… He’s gigantic… I keep saying I can’t wait to properly meet him. That’s the main thing. He has such a character about him… I know he’s going to be fun. It’s gets better every day.”

Now that he’s officially back into the full swing of pop stardom, Liam’s been working with ZEDD, Ed Sheeran, and many more guests (he wouldn’t spills the beans) for his upcoming album. It’s tentatively scheduled to arrive early next year.
