Liam Payne and host of The Late Late Show showed off their singing skills during a sing-off to determine which has better music: boy bands or male solo artists.

After James opens his show with ‘I Want It That Way’ by The Backstreet Boys he says,  “It’s just a fact: boy bands are better than solo artists.  They got the hits, they got the choreographed dances.”  Following his claims, Liam appears on stage to dispute James’ claims.  Liam says, “Don’t get me wrong, boy bands are great, obviously. But you can’t be slumming solo artists.”

Shortly after, both were head-to-head in a very heated competition.  With the help from Filharmonic, an a cappelle group, James performed ‘Tearin’ Up My Heart’ by N’Sync and Hanson’s ‘MMMBop’ while Liam sang ‘Faith’ by George Michael and ending with Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ and of course, his hit single ‘Strip That Down’.  Once Liam claimed his victory, he and James sang ‘Best Song Ever’ by One Direction.

Later on, Liam sat with James and together.  James congratulated Liam on the birth of his song, Bear and Liam explained that his son is growing so fast and he even called him, ‘humongous’.

As of right now, Liam has climbed into the Top Ten with his hit ‘Strip That Down’ featuring Quavo, making it his first major U.S. hit since leaving 1D.  Earlier this year, Liam said, “We were trying to write a song that was like, if Justin Timberlake left N’Sync now, what would he put out?  That was the concept of the song. This is what we came up with.”
