Alessia Cara’s acceptance speech
The Canadian star – straight out of Brampton – took home the best new artist award and had the sweetest speech. Alessia, wearing a casual yet chic pantsuit and white T-shirt, said to the crowd: “I’ve been pretend-winning GRAMMYs since I was a kid in my shower, so you’d think I’d have the speech thing down. There are some incredible artists out there that are making incredible music that deserve to be acknowledged,” she said. “I just want to encourage everyone to support real music and real artists because everyone deserves the same shot.”

Lady Gaga’s angelic performance
The iconic superstar sang her beautiful song “Joanne,” dedicated to the late aunt she never had the chance to meet, before segueing into “A Million Reasons”. In true Gaga fashion, not a detail went unnoticed – her piano was adorned with angel wings in an homage to Joanne, and the larger-than-life performer was clad in a frothy pink confection.

Dave Chapelle “interrupted” Kendrick Lamar’s performance
While Kendrick was performing “XXX” for the crowd, Dave took a moment of the audience’s time to deliver an important message: “Hi. I’m Dave Chapelle. I just wanted to remind the audience that the only thing more frightening than watching a black man being honest in America, is being an honest black man in America.” The GRAMMY winning rapper is well-known for writing music about race relations in America.
The comedian later won best comedy album for The Age Of Spin & Deep In The Heart Of Texas.
