A few months ago, Taylor Swift found herself being sued over some lyrics and yes, it happened once again!
Two songwriters accused Taylor of stealing lyrics from their 2001 song, ‘Playas Gon’ Play’ which was performed by R&B group, 3LW.  The songwriters filed a ‘copyright infringement lawsuit’ against Taylor in 2017 in L.A. at a federal court and as of this week, the judge dismissed the case.
Taylor’s song, ‘Shake It Off’ went no.1 in 2014 and according to the songwriters, they say Taylor’s lyric, “The players gonna play, play, play, play, play, and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate” was inspired by their lyric, “Players, they gonna play, and haters, they gonna hate,” #SURE.
Now back in January, Taylor’s attorneys had asked U.S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald to drop the case and according to the judge, he says, “In order for such short phrases to be protected under the Copyright Act, they must be more creative than the lyrics at issue here.”
Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, the songwriters who sued Taylor were told BY THE JUDGE that, “Phrases about players and haters existed in pop culture before 2011and combining two truisms about playas and haters, both well-worn notions as of 2001, is simply not enough.”

Representing the songwriters is Gerard Fox and he says, “Fitzgerald made a mistake by assessing the originality of the lyrics for himself, instead of relying on experts.  He cannot make himself an expert in the music industry, I’m sorry it’s actually embarrassing.”
