On April 23, a 25-year-old Thornhill man drove a white rental van onto the busy sidewalk at the intersection of Yonge and Finch. With total disregard for human life, he plowed through crowds of people, killing 10 and injuring several more.

Tragedy came to Toronto, but it’s not allowed to stay. In its place, we have found love.

In support of the countless family and friends of the victims of this horrific act of violence, the City of Toronto and the Toronto Foundation have initiated the #TorontoStrong Fund. It has already surpassed $1 million in donations, but there’s still more to be done.

According to the #TorontoStrong Fund website, money raised will first be used to provide crisis support through Victim Services, and second to identify organizations that are engaged in the ripple effect and aftermath of the attack.

There is also a #TorontoStrong vigil planned for this Sunday, April 29 at Mel Lastman Square, in memory of those affected by the attack. It will begin at 7:00 p.m., and it will feature musical performances by local choirs as well as speakers from local faith-based groups.

Mayor John Tory tweeted that he hopes the vigil will showcase the city’s “strength and resiliency” in the face of tragedy.

Show your love alongside KiSS 92.5. Text TORONTO to 80100 to make a $5, $10, $20 or $25 donation. All text donations go to the #TorontoStrong Fund.

Toronto mayor John Tory joined Roz & Mocha to talk about all the other ways people can help. Listen below to find out more.
