Shawn Mendes dropped a brand new music video for Lost In Japan and in case you thought the video looked too familiar, that’s because the concept was inspired by Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation.  The video was directed by Jay Martin and of course, it’s with Zedd!

In the video, Shawn plays Bob, who was once played by Bill Murray and 13 Reason’s Why star, Alisha Boe takes on Charlotte who Scarlett Johansson once played.

It was just a few months ago that Shawn told Billboard Justin Timberlake was the inspiration behind Lost In Japan, “It was me being extremely creative and out there and just kind of going for it.  I had this dream that I was lost in this country, and I woke up the next day and we had this cool piano part and the song was birthed.  It sounds great when you say a song was birthed, but…”

During the 2018 AMAs, Zedd spoke with Billboard about collaborating with Shawn, “We’ve been friends for a while, and we actually tried to work together for way too long.  This has just been a great opportunity because it is my favourite song from his album.  They were looking for a new version of it, so I was like, ‘I’m still here.'”

Lost In Japan was performed by Shawn and Zedd at the 2018 AMAs and after their performance, Shawn confessed it was one of Shawn’s favourite performances, “Zedd and I have been friends for a really long time.  We wanted to do something together and he loved the song.  The performance is actually one of my favourites.”
