We Don’t Talk Anymore was Charlie’s third single off of Nine Track Mind (released in 2016) and the video dropped August of the same year.  It might’ve taken the video to reach 2 billion views in two years but it’s one of 30 videos to reach the huge milestone on the platform.

As Billboard describes, “Directed by Phil Pinto, the video follows Puth and a former love interest through split-screen shots of their lives apart in New York City.  They both seem ecstatic as they attend shows and parties and go on dates, but at the end of the night, they can’t help but flip through adorable old photos of each other.  While this may be a terrible idea for those trying to move on from a past relationship, these two former lovers can’t seem to gather the courage to reach out to each other, which could ultimately mean that some things should be left unsaid.”

There are two back stories to this song – whether or not Charlie and Selena dating during the recording process.  In January of 2016, Selena told E! News, “We’re [not dating], that’s for sure.”  A few months later, Charlie explained, “We did a song together and people think that there’s more, but we just musically collaborated.”  Later on, Charlie changed his story and told Billboard, “I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like [‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’] can come across as real is if there’s something else going on behind the scenes.  And that’s what was happening [with Gomez].  Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful.  And it really messed me up.  I’m trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn’t like I was the only person on her mind.  And I think I knew that going in – what I was getting myself into.”

Regardless, the song is amazeballs and the video hit a milestone!

Other videos on YouTube to hit 2 billion views include:

SHAKIRA / WAKA WAKA

CALVIN HARRIS FEAT. RIHANNA  / THIS IS WHAT YOU CAME FOR

And the video with the most views – 6 billion views to be exact, Luis Fonsi’s ‘Despacito.’
