During Ariana Grande’s tour stop in Charlotte, she surprised fans by performing not one, but two throwback tracks – Tattooed Heart and Piano.  Both records are from Ariana’s Yours Truly days, released in 2013.  That night, it was also Joan Grande’s (Ari’s mom) birthday so, to honour her, and since those songs seem to be her favourites, Ariana performed them.

Firstly, Ariana posted this sweet throwback photo of her and mama Joan with the caption, “Happy birthday best friend @joangrande you are the strongest, most generous, funniest and most fiercely compassionate human being in the universe and I’m so grateful to learn from you and to be your daughter.”

 

 

Before Ariana performed Tattooed Heart, she told the crowd, “It’s actually a very special day: Today is my mom’s birthday.  I haven’t done these songs in a couple years but … they’re my mom’s favourites … she’s like, ‘Why don’t do you those songs?'”

Following her performance, Ari’s mom, Joan Grande, wrote a sweet tweet for her daughter, “Greatest singer in the world and she sang this for me! Wow … my head is spinning! There’s truly no one better! I’m so grateful for this moment … one I will never forget! I love you.”

 

 

Joan also tweeted, “After midnight and I want to thank my daughter for the most spectacular birthday, beyond thoughtful surprises.  So honoured that you sang those extra songs for me .. wow, I am one lucky woman.  Thank you for all the beautiful birthday wishes and thank you to this birthday, here’s to NEXT.”

 

 

Ariana replied, “Happy birthday to the most incredible human being in the universe Joan Grande see you soon.”
