Due to the growing concern surrounding COVID-19, the JUNOs have canceled this year’s award show.

In a statement that’s been issued across social media, it explains, “We are devastated to cancel this national celebration of music, but at this time of global uncertainty, the health, safety and well-being of all Canadians must stand at the forefront of any decisions that impact our communities.  We know this is the right decision based on the information we currently have and are continuing to receive.  The situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve rapidly and we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.”

Alessia Cara, this year’s award show host and 6x nominee, has also made a public statement: “I landed in Saskatoon last night for the JUNOs and immediately got the news that we couldn’t move forward with the show due to the health concerns surrounding the Coronavirus.  I’m so sad (as is everyone putting together the show) but it wouldn’t be safe or smart to put thousands of people in an arena right now.  Everyone’s health and safety comes first and it’s just too risky at the moment.  I’m hoping we can find some way to make it up to everyone, but none of us have much information on what’s happening moving forward.  I was so excited to host but it’s better safe than sorry.”
