Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 JUNO Awards, which were originally scheduled to happen in Saskatoon back in March, were cancelled.  Although artists like Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes and Jessie Reyez weren’t able to walk across the stage to physically receive their award, a virtual ceremony was held last night (June 29).

Huge congratulations goes to Alessia Cara and Shawn Mendes – they were last night’s big winners.  Alessia, who was scheduled to host this year’s award show, walked away with three awards (she was nominated for six) – ‘Album of the Year,’ ‘Songwriter of the Year,’ and ‘Pop Album of the Year.’

Shawn made JUNO history – he is now the first male artist in history to win ‘Single of the Year’ for the last three years.  Shawn won this year for his for ‘Señorita’ collaboration with Camila Cabello.  In 2019, he won with ‘In My Blood’ and in 2018, he won  with ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.’

 

 

 

And check this out – next year, the JUNO’s will be celebrating their 50th anniversary, and they’ve decided to hold the award show in TORONTO!
