If you’re curious to learn more about the mouth-watering Jamaican fare, you have come to the right place!

The Patty is a staple of Jamaica’s bold and delicious cuisine history and has its roots in Jamaican culture going back several hundred years. As Jamaicans emigrated to North America they brought the Patty with them, making it a popular food choice among those living in places like NYC, Montreal, and of course Toronto. Which of course brings us to the natural question: Who has the best patties in Toronto?

Each year on February 23, we mark the anniversary of Toronto’s Patty Wars — a legendary dispute that took place in 1985 between local patty vendors and the city’s food inspectors over use of the term ‘beef patty’. After weeks of negotiations, the Jamaican community prevailed and vendors were permitted to continue referring to their delicious flaky pastries as beef patties.

You might already be a fan of the Jamaican Patty but if you haven’t tried one, you should probably take notes because we’re going to give you a list of great Patty spots in Toronto. Then, you’ll have no excuse! We are bringing the island to you!

Allwyn’s Bakery
81 Underhill Drive, North York

Allwyn’s Bakery is a North York staple for fantastic Caribbean and Jamaican inspired dishes and has been in business for over 20 years. From Oxtail, Jerk chicken, and Goat curry Allwyn’s serves it all. And if that wasn’t enough, they also happen to have one of the best patties in the entire city. For a proper Jamaican patty experience, get it served on cocobread.

Randy’s Takeout
1569 Eglinton Ave West, Toronto

Right in the heart of Toronto’s Little Jamaica, you’ll find Randy’s Takeout. Specializing in Jamaican cuisine, Randy’s has been a local and GTA go-to since 1979. They’ve got all the traditional dishes you’d expect, and as luck would have it one of the best Jamaican patties in the city. Randy’s has consistently been mentioned as THE place to get the best patty in the city.

(Bakery on The GO) Warden TTC Station
3276 St. Clair Ave East, Scarborough

Now, you might be reading this and saying aloud to yourself “Warden Station?” and that would be perfectly ok, because outside of Scarborough, Bakery On The Go isn’t really a household name. But ask anyone FROM Scarborough and they’ll tell you that the patties at this little shop and bakery inside Warden Station are legit and will rival any patty in the city. For extra deliciousness ask for a ‘spicy patty on a bun.’

Crumbs Gourmet Patties
63 Kensington Avenue, Toronto

Located smack-dab in the middle of Kensington Market, is an unassuming little spot called Crumbs Gourmet Patties located within Rasta Pasta. Crumbs has been in the patty business for quite some time and are expanding with two more locations coming soon. Crumbs specialized on different gourmet takes on the Jamaican patty, all with deliciously mouth-watering results!

Patties Express

Patties Express has been around for over 30 years, serving Jamaican patties to the downtown core. Patties Express bakes up their fresh fare every day with beef, chicken, and veggie options available to their hungry customers.
