After almost 7 years of marriage, Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kanye West.

According to TMZ, ‘Kim filed for joint custody for their four children.’  Kim and Kanye share North (7), Saint (5), Chicago (3), and Psalm (1).  The news surrounding their divorce began with Kanye when he tweeted on July 21, “I’ve been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf for ‘prison reform.'”  In a separate tweet Kanye wrote, “Meek is my man and was respectful. That’s my dog Kim was out of line I’m worth 5 billion dollars and more than that through Christ But ya’ll ain’t listen to MJ and now ya’ll believe them???”  Both tweets have since been deleted.

Kim then responded with an open letter, revealing that Kayne had been struggling with bipolar disorder, “I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health.  He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions…. I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this,” she wrote on Instagram.

Kanye later made a public apology tweeting, “I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter. I did not cover her like she has covered me. To Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me.”

This is Kanye’s first marriage and Kim’s third.  Kim was previously married to NBA player Kris Humphries and songwriter Damon Thomas.
