Summertime is all about cooking up delicious meals for friends and family on the BBQ. The finger-licking foods that most grill-masters initially think of are hamburgers, hot dogs and steaks. Here are some unique foods you can cook on the BBQ to make summer meals a hot and crispy hit with your family and friends!

GRILLED WATERMELON

This sweet treat will take on a smoky flavour on the BBQ and tastes best after sprinkling brown sugar, lime and cumin on the watermelon triangles prior to grilling. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your combinations – lime juice, sugar and even red pepper flakes come highly recommended! Scoop some ice cream or Greek yogurt on the side and you’ve got one fun dessert!

GRILLED ROMAINE HEADS

Lettuce has never looked so good. Brush these gorgeous greens with olive oil or vegetable oil and season as you see fit. If you like spice, sprinkle the romaine heads with Cajun seasoning and black pepper. Squeezing fresh lemon or drizzling red wine vinegar is another popular option. This crunchy, nutritious side will be a huge hit with the family. You could even grill your lettuce before you put it on a burger to spice up the basic-burg. Kale is another healthy option to consider!

WHOLE GRILLED PEPPERS

Red, green, yellow or orange – a pepper’s taste intensifies after a quick cook on the barbecue. No prep necessary. Just throw these “peppies” on the grill and char them evenly for a minute or so on each side. After the peppers are thoroughly cooked, place them in a bowl with a lid for 5 minutes and then drizzle with olive oil or vinegar and some salt.

GRILLED PINEAPPLE POPS

Season these pineapple pops with black pepper, lime juice and honey. Feeling fancy? Sprinkle some brown sugar on top and dip them in Greek yogurt.
