Meghan Trainor has released her new song ‘No’, which will feature on her upcoming studio album titled Thank You due out May 13th.

Fresh of her Grammy win for ‘Best New Artist’, Meghan spoke to Elle magazine about the new single…

ON THE NEW SONG & ALBUM:

Yeah. I wrote an entire album and [then] I went to [Epic Records CEO] L.A. Reid. It was just us, alone, in a room. And I said, ‘This is my album. It’s what I want.’ And he was like, ‘You don’t have your single.’ It made me so angry! So I said ‘Alright, Mr. Reid. I’m going to go right now and write my song and you’re going to love it.’ I went to the studio and put the anger into a big ‘go away’ song and it came out as a dope, girl anthem. When I say, ‘You need to let it go,’ it’s like me telling the label like, ‘This is good music. Let’s put it out.’

ON WHY IT’S IMPORTANT FOR WOMEN TO SAY ‘NO’?

Well, for me, I want to be better at being single, and I want to be better at feeling okay about being single. I don’t need a boyfriend. It’s a big anthem for helping young teens, young girls, who are growing up and need to know that it’s okay that you don’t need a man. You can go out with your girls and have just as much fun.
