According to PEOPLE, “The routine, which earned Ohashi a perfect 10 and praise from a slew of big names (including Sen. Kamala Harris!) featured music like Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary,’ Earth, Wind & Fire’s ‘September,’ The Jackson 5’s ‘ABC’ and several of Michael Jackson’s other hits, such as ‘The Way You Make Me Fee.’  The UCLA Bruins’ total score was 197.700, taking first place.”  Check out Katelyn’s routine below.

Here’s some history on this gymnastics beauty:

  • Katelyn competed with the USA Gymnastics’ junior national team for four years.
  • In 2013, she won the American Cup over Simone Biles, who at the time, was her teammate.

Katelyn then retired from elite gymnastics last summer.  She says, “There was a time where I was on top of the world, an Olympic hopeful.  I was unbeatable, until I wasn’t.  Gymnastics was my worth, it was my life.  I hated myself.”  Following two torn shoulders and a fractured back, Katelyn decided to become a college athlete.  At least she still has humour – Katelyn tweeted, “Now I gotta learn how to clap on beat.”

And Katelyn isn’t the only meg-gymnast from UCLA – in 2017, Hallie Mosset wowed the crowed with her very Sasha Fierce – Beyoncé themed routine and in 2016, Sophina Dejesus incorporated some ‘Whip / Nae Nae into her routine.  Watch below.

And for her future, Katelyn explains, “I’ve found my joy … It’s not me standing on a podium with medals.  It’s me being able to walk out with a smile on my face and truly be, like happy with myself.  And that comes first.”
