Khalid just dropped a brand new album, Free Spirit!

If you loved the vibe of his debut album, American Teen, I can guarantee you’ll LOVE his new one, Free Spirit Listening to the album track by track, you can hear the growth, not just in the vocals but also within the lyrics. We’ve gotten to know the songs, Better, My Bad, Talk, and you may have recognized Saturday Nights from his 7-track EP, Suncity.

He’s still got that soul/pop vibe that we love about Khalid. This time though, the lyrics really go deeper than in American Teen. I feel like in every stage, the older you get, the more you learn, and gain more experience, and more to write about. And while American Teen felt lighter in a sense, Free Spirit really shows us Khalid on a much personal level. We can feel his growth, and what he’s gone through in a way.

Starting with the Intro, the lyrics grab you when he sings, ““I can’t even live with being by myself / That’s the part of me that really needs your help / Lately, I haven’t been doing very well / That’s the difference between heaven and hell.”

Between tough relationships, trying to stay focused, and dealing with fame, he really opens up about his own self doubt and how much “fame sucks.”

But we feel different layers to him, like the hits you hear on KiSS 92.5, he still has those up-beat R&B tracks like Better, Right Back, and Talk.

We may not know Khalid on a personal level, but between his melodies, lyrics, and passion with this album – he takes us on a journey into his soul, and you can feel the passion behind it.

Well done Khalid. We can’t wait for what’s next…
