The Weeknd References Bella Hadid & Selena Gomez on 'After Hours' 

It’s been less than 24-hours since The Weeknd dropped his 4th studio album, ‘After Hours,’ and fans couldn’t help but notice a handful of references to both of Abel’s ex-girlfriends, Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez.

Since April of 2015, The Weeknd and Bella Hadid have been on and off, officially calling it quits in late 2019.

Abel’s other high-profile ex-girlfriend was Selena Gomez.  Abel and Selena were first seen together on January 11, 2017 and by the end of October of that same year, the pair had called it quits. Selena was then seen hanging out once again with her ex, Justin Bieber. From what we know, the two got back together, for a very short time, before JB was seen parading around the streets of LA and NY with his now wife, Hailey Baldwin.

In March of 2018, The Weeknd dropped his EP, My Dear Melancholy which, you guess it, was all about Selena.  Fast forward to 2020 and here we are, with a brand new album and thanks to Bella and Selena, we now have a killer album and fire songs to jam out to (especially since we’re on home lockdown).  How do we know the lyrics point to Bel and Sel? Well, check out the lyrics for yourself below.

Track 3: Hardest to Love

“You try with me so many times, yeah / You’re cryin’ out behind?the?smiles / And I can?see right through the lies…And what we had is dead inside, yeah / You’re actin’ like it’s still alive, ayy / And you still wanna make it right.”

Could this lyric mean Selena tried to get back with Abel?

“Don’t regret the day we met (We met) / Don’t forget that time we spent (We spent) / Forget that we’re in different beds.”

Why y’all want to hurt Abel?

Track 6: Escape from LA

“She got Chrome Hearts hanging from her neck.”

Bella is and has been associated with Chrome Hearts, a high-end jewellery and accessory line.

‘A cold hearted b***h with no shame.”

Could this be about Bella or could this be about Selena, leaving Abel for Justin?

“Gave you power, gave you life, gave you space so you can shine.”

Since Bella did come into the spotlight well after Abel, there’s no doubt this lyric is about her.

“She’s all mine until he calls her line.”

This lyric screams Selena and JB.

Track 11: Save Your Tears

“I saw you dancing in a crowded room / You look so happy when I’m not with you / But then you saw me, caught you by surprise / A single teardrop falling from your eye.”

Selena has a song on Rare titled ‘Crowded Room’ OR, it could be about the run-in he had with Bella in August of 2019.  The two saw one another at Catch One nightclub following their breakup and sources suggest Bella left minutes after spotting her ex.

“You could’ve asked me why I broke your heart / You could’ve told me that you fell apart / But you walked past me like I wasn’t there / And just pretended like you didn’t care.”

This suggests The Weeknd was the one who called it quits with Bella this time around.

“So, I made you think that I would always stay / I said some things that I should never say / Yeah, I broke your heart like someone did to mine / And now you won’t love me for a second time.”

Abel broke Bella’s heart like Selena broke his – now Bella won’t take him back.
