U.S. Army vet Justin Lansford knew exactly who he wanted standing next to him on his big day.

Lansford and his dog Gabe met back in 2013, a year after he was injured while serving in Afghanistan as a paratrooper (he lost his leg after his truck hit an IED).

He told the New York Daily News, “Since day one, we’ve been joined to the hip, “It meant the world to have him next to me. He’s there for me all day, every day.”

He continued, “It was really cool to have him right by me,” I don’t think there was a dry eye at that point. It was a pretty steady ‘aww’ throughout the entire wedding.”

Justin and Gabe were paired through the Warrior Canine Connection, which also happens to be the organization that Lansford’s bride Carol Balmes worked for.

For Justin it was a no-brainer to have Gabe stand next to him on his big day, “He goes everywhere I go…” “He’s certainly there to pick me up emotionally when I need it. Why would the wedding be any different?”
