Toronto Is the Third Best City In the World to Be A Sports Fan

Gambling.com created a worldwide index and named the top 50 best cities for sports fans, the top 25 most popular sports teams, and the 15 cities with the most seats.  Unfortunately, Toronto nor its teams made it onto the ‘most popular sports teams’ or ‘most seats’ lists however, Toronto is the third best city in the world to be a sports fan.

According to the website, the criteria includes:

• Metrics 1-7: The number of respective professional American football, baseball, basketball, cricket, ice hockey, rugby and soccer teams in each city
• Metric 8: Of these 7 sports, the total number of teams in professional leagues in each city
• Metric 9: Total stadium capacity by number of seats
• Metric 10-16: Sports team search volumes across 100,000 residents
• Metric 17: The total search volume by city across all sports and leagues

Gambling.com explains, “These indexes are each scored out of 100 and added together to give a score out of 1700. In addition to the index, the most popular sports team list was calculated for each city by taking their search volume. The team’s sport was also recorded to show the most popular sport in each city.”
