City’s Avery Haines on Orlando Shooting: “Love Conquers Hate”

One of the more poignant responses to the shooting has come from CityNews reporter Avery Haines.

In an article for CityNews, Avery opens up about what the Orlando shooting taught her about truth, courage and love.

Speaking about the love that she shares for her partner Mel, and the subsequent hate that people have towards that love, Avery says,

“It’s a love that some of you hate. And tears are pouring down my face as I write those words. How could something so authentic, so beautiful and so right be a target for hate?

Mel is a woman.

And it’s 2016.

And coming-out stories are so 1990s”.
