There has been a lot of negative press leading up to the 2016 Olympics regarding health concerns and poor living conditions for the athletes.  However, they are finally ready to kick-off in Rio on Friday. The opening ceremony will be spectacular as they normally are, but keep your eyes and ears open for one performer in particular. MC Soffia is just a 12 year-old who has already become a star in Brazil. Born in Sao Paulo, the young artist says she chose to do rap because, “you can express yourself, tell people what you are feeling, talk about the reality you are living. But I do like other styles too.” Here’s one of her songs, ‘Menina Pretinha’ which translated means ‘Black Girl’. The rapper is wise beyond her years as she tackles racism and gender equality in the song. Make sure to watch for her during the ceremony!
