Pickering, Ontario native, Shawn Mendes has released the follow up to his highly successful debut studio album Unwritten, with his latest offering, titled, Illuminate.

The album features the lead single, ‘Treat You Better’.

Shawn released three other offerings from the new record, ‘Mercy’, ‘Three Empty Words’ and a music video for the song, ‘Ruin’.

In an interview with KiSS 92.5 in Toronto, Shawn spoke about where the title, ‘Illuminate’ came from, “…I think first off in a silly way it sounds really cool and is a really awesome kind of name, but the way I was kind of seeing it was, through dark times I’m always relying on music and I think that’s a world wide thing to help people get through their rough times in life and they rely on music and I kind of wanted to create that album that people could rely on and always shed light on people when they need it…”

When asked what his own personal favourite song on Illuminate was, Shawn said, “It’s hard dude, I mean they’re so different, but I think ‘Ruin’ is definitely one of my favourites and ‘Three Empty Words’ for sure’.
