On ‘Green Light’ Lorde sings, ‘Cause honey I’ll, come get my things, but I can’t let go / I’m waiting for it, that green light, I want it / Oh I wish I could get my things and just let go / I’m waiting for it, that green light, I want it.’

She spoke with Zane Lowe of Beats 1 about the new single, check out that interview below.

Over the weekend, she released a 15 second ad on New Zealand TV teasing new music.

We last heard from Lorde in 2015 when she teamed with EDM duo Disclosure for their song ‘Magnets’.

Prior to that she sung ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ off The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack.

After her 2013 album Pure Heroine, Lorde sort of disappeared for a little while. But in November of last year, she updated the world on what she had been up to and why she decided to move away from public life, “sometime in the last year or so, part of me crossed over. For one thing, I made a very deliberate choice to withdraw for a little while from a public life…I turned inwards to my friends, my family, towards this moment, so I could learn more about who I was, and so I could let this new project show itself to me.”

Looking back on Pure Heroine she said, “writing Pure Heroine was my way of enshrining our teenage glory, putting it up in lights forever so that part of me never dies, and this record – well, this one is about what comes next.”

In the Facebook post mentioned above, Lorde talked about her new music but was mum on the details, “I want nothing more than to spill my guts RIGHT NOW about the whole thing – I want you to see the album cover, pore over the lyrics (the best I’ve written in my life), touch the merch, experience the live show. I can hardly stop myself from typing out the name. I just need to keep working a while longer to make it as good as it can be. You’ll have to hold on. The big day is not tomorrow, or even next month realistically, but soon. I know you understand.”

The good thing is we won’t need to wait too long to hear Lorde perform ‘Green Light’ as she’s the musical guest on Saturday Night Live next weekend; Scarlett Johansson will be the guest host.

Lorde will also perform at Coachella in April, The Governors Ball in June and Osheaga in August!
